Watch Jugjugg Jeeyo; movie review 2022

JUGJUGG JEEYO
Cert 12A
148 mins
BBFC advice: Contains moderate sex references

Twice in the past few months we have heard stories of people divorcing after an extraordinary amount of time together.
How can anyone live with someone for 30+ years before deciding their partner is no longer right for them?
Raj Mehta's Jugjugg Jeeyo focuses on the split of a long-established couple (Anil Kapoor and Neetu Singh) as well as the potential separation of their son (Varun Dhawan) from his childhood sweetheart (Kiara Advani).
Ironically, they are all coming together for the nuptials of another one of the close family (Prajakta Koli) who is going ahead with an arranged marriage despite loving another man.
Dhawan's character Kukoo is on the edge as he struggles to understand why his own marriage is crumbling while watching his father take off with another woman (Tisca Chopra).
He has already had to endure an unhappy emigration to Canada where his wife has settled much more effectively than him.
Now, on his return, he finds that his homeland feels just as foreign.
Meanwhile, Kapoor is unashamedly dastardly as his dad, playing fast and loose with both his wife and mistress.
Unfortunately, the female characters do not have equal air time and that is a pity because they are rather more rounded.
Mehta's film has an interesting premise and is lively and colourful with a couple of exciting song and dance numbers but, in my opinion, its overall story isn't strong enough to hold up a movie of nearly two and a half hours.

Reasons to watch: Lively and colourful
Reasons to avoid: So-so storyline

Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 6/10

Did you know?
Varun Dhawan studied at Nottingham Trent University and during that time, he distributed promotional leaflets in the city's nightclubs for five pounds an hour.

The final word. Raj Mehta: "These subjects could have been dealt in a serious way, but we decided to keep it funny and entertaining. Jug Jugg Jeeyo is slightly more heavy on the drama front as compared to Good Newwz." Pink Villa
